"I am not the sole author of my successes or defeats".

There’s a fantastic speech by an incredible human being, Ze Frank; check it out. He says, “I am not the sole author of my successes or defeats”. When you listen to our podcast and read our articles, you’ll join a movement of people that know we can only succeed as a species by working together. Our business is to help people have honest conversations that help us all succeed.

This is a technical blog, podcast and platform. We will discuss the technology services sector’s good and not so good. We’ll talk about security, building profitable practices, customer relationships, sales, but most importantly, mental health, and how to find purpose in an industry that’s run often on coffee and pressure.

My story

Mark’s career started at the age of 15. The first computer he fixed was the family PC. He broke it. His dad was at work. He had to figure out how to fix it before his dad got home. Ever since then, he was hooked. From the moment Mark set foot in his first role, he saw a challenge with workers and managers often having a disconnect between their shared (or sometimes separate) wants and needs when coming to work every day.

With a passion for problem-solving and have risen through the ranks to build high-performing teams worldwide. Mark was always aware of his mental health challenges and never shied away from tackling them head-on. With the belief that humanity is more than the tagline on our LinkedIn profiles, he set out to bring people into a platform where they could tell their career stories and lend a voice to those still developing theirs.

Mark’s story is a relentless (and sometimes misguided) pursuit of technical and business perfection, a high bar he now realises is impossible to meet, and a story of openly and purposefully making mistakes and owning them. EverySaturday is here to show that even the most senior people in the technology industry can be vulnerable and make mistakes.

This site is built on the belief that a senior manager, COO, Director, or CEO of any business can share their mistakes with the world, those coming into the workforce will not shy away from making them, and we’ll leave the world a happier, healthier place.

FAQ

Altruism. Plain and simple. Whenever someone comes home from work stressed, frustrated, upset, anxious, or worried, they bring that home to their families. We are here doing this because we fundamentally believe that if we are to spend 1/3 of our 24-hour day working a job, it should be fulfilling, fun, and honest. There should be no egos, bravado, or sense of “but I want this from you”. We are here to share stories of us, we, our. Not me, my, mine. The technology services industry is one of the biggest industries in the world. Millions of practitioners navigate their careers the way folks do in the sciences, agriculture, and manufacturing. There is stress and pressure in every profession. Every Saturday knows the tensions and pressures in the technology sector intimately, and we want to help people navigate them.”
Quite simply, I’m not, not yet, and maybe not ever. The best part of the IT industry is the amazing people you meet, the problems you solve, and the conversations you get to have every day. The people we will bring into our discussions are either developing their voices and careers, or they have had immense privilege and success and are willing to share theirs. Over time, we’ll build a collaborative space where folks can seek and offer to mentor. We’ll build a business-to-business marketplace for people to show their wares, but that will all be secondary to the stories we tell to empower the growth of the individuals that gravitate to this platform.
